We as students do so much to ensure a passing grade in each class we take. Many of us use tools like books, computers, tablets, smart phones, apps and even the good old pen and paper to do everything we can to guarantee good grades in school. Despite all of these tools, many of us still struggle in certain subjects, which is why you should make a few friends in each class you take.
Simply being able to discuss things with a couple of people who are in the same class will help make you more successful. There are a ton of obvious reasons for making friends in your classes. The most important reasons in my opinion are having the ability to acquire information you may have missed and having a study partner for tests or quizzes.
When you miss a class, whether for a good reason or not, you miss all of the information given on that day. Even if you have a really nice teacher who emails you a list of what you missed, you will have the ability to check with others in the class who can either add to or simply reinforce the information you were given. More importantly, this is extremely handy when you have a professor who is difficult to reach or just doesn’t care about you.
The most important reason to make a friend in your classes is this: when it comes time for an assignment, quiz, or test you not only have the ability to study together, you also have the ability to ensure that you are studying the right information at the right time. Working with a friend can help you find new ways of studying, give you someone to bounce information off of, and will help each of you better understand the information.
Spend the first few days of class getting to know at least two of those around you. Make a very basic contact sheet to hand out. Explain that you would like to be able to exchange information and help if they miss a class, this will be the start to a great learning experience.
