Music is made for all generations, and as time progresses, it is harder for people to stay in touch with the music that is from their culture. Enter young superstars that fuse music to make sure the younger generation stays in touch with their culture.
One of these artists is Fateh. Fateh is from Toronto and is a rapper and songwriter. He had his performance in California and around the United States this past weekend.
During his time at Livingston High School’s (LHS) Vaisakhi Mela, Fateh said, “My favorite place to perform was in Oslo (Norway). My first performance in the States was yesterday at University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB).”
Vaisakhi is a time of the year that is important to Sikh community on a global level.
As Fateh says, “it is part of culture and heritage.”
He has been featured on a number of songs.
“My favorite collaboration was Inch,” he says.
The song has reached over 18 million views on YouTube. It is a song that was released two years ago and is still spun by DJs at almost every Punjabi party.
If you ever show up to one of his events here’s what to expect.
“Energy, lots of energy, great music, diverse, sound, hip-hop fused with bhangra,” he said.
This event was made open to the public. Students, teachers, parents not just from Livingston, but the surrounding communities as well.
Future California State University, Stanislaus (Stan State), student Gurpreet Kaur (incoming freshman, Business) was present at the event.
“Fateh’s performance was amazing! We all enjoyed it,” Kaur said. “The event was amazing!”
LHS students found out after a miscommunication issue with the previously booked performer that she was not going to show up. They were upset for a bit until they found out that it will be Fateh coming to their school.
LHS freshman student Gursimar Sidhu was also present at the event.
“The event had many performances and Fateh’s was the best. I liked how he interacted with his fans,” Sidhu said. “That performance was extremely fun!”
He has recently released his album “Bring it Home.” To listen to some of his music you can check out his YouTube page.
