The Associated Students, Inc.’s (ASI) Campus Pride Committee has taken up the task to further unify Stan State with their “Warrior Red” Campaign this year.
According to Jocelyn Castellanos, Chair and Lead Coordinator for the committee, the committee consists of students from various areas found within ASI & the University Student Union (USU).
Michelle Nungaray, ASI Board of Director for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and the ASI Secretary stated that this campaign works to “re-develop and implement a sense of campus pride at Stan State.”
“The overall vision of the campaign is to have students, staff, faculty, administration and alumni feel a grand sense of unity and belonging at Stanislaus State,” Castellanos said.
Castellanos added that the campaign will aim to combine a variety of “exciting elements” to help the Campus Pride Committee reach their overall visions and goals for this year. Castellanos stated that the campaign is still in the proposal stage, but should be completed during the spring semester.
“I wanted to be a part of this committee because there is so much greatness at this university, and I just think it’s worth celebrating it as much as we can,” Castellanos said. “We are really excited about the launch of this campaign, and our goal is for everyone to share the same vision of inclusiveness, unity and Stan State pride.”
Cesar Rumayor, Executive Director of ASI and USU, stated their main goal is to increase the overall pride and sense of belonging for all students at the university. He felt that by achieving that goal, faculty, staff and alumni would also become invested in increasing campus pride.
However, Rumayor added that before they can accomplish that goal the campaign needed to answer an important question: what do students define as campus pride?
“That is our first question for everyone: what is campus pride to everyone? And then we can follow up with the campaign,” Rumayor said.
Campus pride meant something different to a few of the university’s student residents.
Carmen Muniz (freshman, Biology) said that campus pride, to her, is making an impact and influencing others. On the other hand, Teresa Garcia (freshman, Criminal Justice) felt that displaying campus pride is about teamwork and wearing red to support the university.
Participating in the quad on Wednesdays and being given complimentary items were just a few ways that Lesley Ramos (freshman, Biology) and Muniz enjoyed interacting with their campus.
Rumayor stated that the committee will be out in the quad and other areas during the entire week of Homecoming, which takes place from Feb. 6-11, to ask students what campus pride means to them.
Kat Ochoa, KCSS’ Promotions Director, said the station will also be out in the quad during the Homecoming Kick Off day on Feb. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., “Wearing red” that week.
In order to advance and advertise the “Warrior Red” Campaign, Castellanos stated that the committee will be doing “a lot of social media interaction” with students, “interacting with students personally to talk to them about this campaign,” as well as communicating the “overall vision of the campaign with different departments on campus to get them involved.”
