Students looking for some wise words from Stan State alumni will have their chance next week at the annual Warrior Wisdom event.
The Alumni Association will host this year’s Warrior Wisdom alumni panel Tuesday, February 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in room 130 in the Mary Stuart Rogers (MSR) building.
The Warrior Wisdom program connects alumni to students, offering mentoring and networking opportunities, said Lisa McMullen, director of alumni relations at Stan State.
“It is helpful for students to hear from graduates who are just starting out in their careers and those who are established,” McMullen said. “Each will have a different, but equally important, viewpoint to applying for internships and employment.”
The alumni chosen to participate in the panel cover a variety of professional experience and have a desire to give back to their alma mater through mentorship.
Some of the topics that will be discussed by alumni during the event will include general information about how to stand out in an interview, how to network and how to hone professional development skills that would be valuable for any student regardless of their major.
Alumni who tend to hire Stan State students or want an opportunity to recruit them are invited to participate.
“The Warrior Wisdom events are not a recruiting event,” said McMullen. “But you never know where an introduction will lead.”
In addition to networking, students who attend have a chance to gain new knowledge about job searches, interviewing, and professional development. The Alumni Association further hopes the event will serve as a model for future graduates.
“It is also important for our students to see how they can be engaged alumni after they graduate,” said McMullen.
Warrior Wisdom is open to all Stan State students, free of charge.
