After an intense homework session, nothing sounded more appetizing to me than a box of McDonalds’ fries.
As most millenials do, I took to social media to vent about my salty craving, Twitter was the outlet I chose to describe my desired snack.
Without expecting an actual response from the “Twittersphere”, yesterday I tweeted “I’ve never wanted McDonald’s fries more than right now” followed by a fry emoji and a heart-eyes emoji.
Approximately two hours later and BAM, the official Twitter account of McDonald’s had responded to my tweet. They even responded with a personalized message.
“There’s nothing better than delicious fries! Come on by, we’ve got plenty to share, Brittany!” McDonald’s tweeted.
Much to my delight, I felt apart of their community and it fueled my want for fries even more.
Without further contemplation, I took a break from my homework session to drive around the corner to my local McDonald’s branch.
College students enjoy eating at McDonald’s due to its cheaper fast food pricing, convenient locations to campus on Geer St. and Monte Vista St. and their quick service.
“The food is cheap which is always nice. I usually only get the stuff with egg because I’m a vegetarian.” Hilda Flores (junior, Communication Studies) said, “I like the egg muffins now that they have the all day breakfast option”.
After checking out the McDonald’s official Twitter account, I found that their tweets are relevant to social movements and captivated my attention as a millennial.
During the time of the Coachella music festival, they tweeted an image of sunglasses, flower crowns and a McDonald’s breakfast sandwich to promote their #AllDayBreakfast campaign.
To stimulate interest in their Money Monopoly promotion, they tweeted with hashtags such as #ballin and #StacksonStacks.
Another reason why college students chose to get their grub on there is because they provide a less expensive alternative to Starbucks’ caffeinated drinks.
“I like to order fries with buffalo sauce and their iced hazelnut coffee because it is cheaper than going to Starbucks” Melissa Miranda (junior, Psychology) said.
Whether it’s their addicting fries or their low cost coffee drinks, McDonald’s has college students buzzing about their products.
Through this one-on-one social media engagement via Twitter, McDonald’s has gained another follower in me and a continuing customer.
