As Thanksgiving approaches, many Warriors are preparing to spend time with family, enjoy home cooked meals and take a brief pause before finals season begins. Warriors shared their Thanksgiving traditions and what the holiday means to them.

Diana Causor (Sophomore, Business) talked about how her family celebrates by preparing a mix of Mexican and American dishes.
“We usually make little baked goods that we wouldn’t make on a typical day, so it’s an excuse to get in the kitchen. We make a mix of Mexican and American food, so it’s just a way to make a lot of food,” Causor said.
Giovanni Martinez Castillo (Senior, Business) said he appreciates having the week off to rest and spend time with family.

“I love it as a school aspect, we get that week off and I get to rest,” Castillo said.
He discussed a tradition that his family does during the holiday.
“We have a tradition of making tamales. We do a little table and we just all sit down, have some great family bonding time,” he said.
Castillo added that family time is a meaningful aspect of this season for him, as it is not something that occurs regularly.
“Family engagement, or spending time with family, we all get together once a year and spend time together and eat some delicious food,” he said.

David Alvarez (Senior, Criminal Justice) said Thanksgiving is one of the few times his extended family is able to gather.
“I have several relatives who live across California, and typically we do our best to get each other and spend it as one big family,” Alvarez said. “Thanksgiving, to me, makes me slow down a little bit, think about family and think about things that you enjoy.”
Alvarez noted that the holiday offers a valuable opportunity to reflect and reconnect before the end of the semester.

Kaihli Miner-Hill (Sophomore, Creative Media) emphasises the importance of this break and how she plans to spend it.
“This break is definitely needed,” she said. “This semester has been very busy, so I am very excited for this quick break before finals week.”
She further went on to talk about what she plans to do over break.
“I’m excited about the break and getting a chance to spend time with family and watch movies with my friends. I’m ready to take a break and possibly get ahead in assignments even though I will probably just catch up on reading and shows,” she said.
As the holiday season continues, students across Stan State are finding ways to celebrate what this season means to them in their own variety of ways.
Readers are invited to share their own Thanksgiving traditions in the comments.
