As winter break arrives, many Warriors are eager to take a step back from school and spend quality time with their loved ones.
The holiday season brings a wide variety of traditions, some shared with family and others practiced individually, that help Warriors stay grounded and joyful during this time of year.
The Frosty Finals tutoring event, held Dec. 10, brought together the Writing Center tutors who shared what they’re most looking forward to this winter break.

Brooke Boucher (Business, Senior) has a long standing holiday tradition of building gingerbread houses with her family.
“Building gingerbread houses is a really important Christmas activity. We get very competitive with it in my family,” Boucher said. “We bring all the supplies; beans, pasta, anything you can find in the kitchen. We go pretty crazy. I’m excited to get competitive with it again this year, and hopefully win again.”
She also described herself as a self proclaimed “winter girl,” she looks forward to hitting the slopes during break.
“It’s definitely my favorite time of year. I love snow sports, so I’m really excited to go skiing. Hopefully, we get snow soon because there hasn’t been any yet,” she said.
While Boucher looks forward to all the activities she can do while on winter break, others such as Rylee Lankford (Biology, Freshman) shared how she is ready for some well-earned rest.
“I’m very excited for winter break. The first week, I’m just gonna take some time to myself,” Lankford said.
She also talked about how slowing down and resting will help her reset for the spring semester.

Janessa Preciado (Pre-Nursing, Sophomore) is excited to lace up her skates and enjoy the festive atmosphere in the Bay Area.
“I’m excited to go ice skating. I really want to go to San Francisco and Union Square. They have a really cute rink, and the Christmas tree is up,” Preciado said.
Preciado added that she is still unsure of her plans for the holidays because of her work schedule.
“I feel like Christmas this year is gonna feel a bit weird just because I don’t know if I’m working Christmas Day or Christmas Eve,” she said.
For Erika Aguilar (Multiple Subject Credential, Senior) she shared how this holiday session is especially meaningful to her.
“I would say Christmas and Christmas Eve, especially because in my family, we gather on Christmas Eve for dinner,” Aguilar shared. “This Christmas is actually a special one because it’s my first Christmas as a married woman, so I’m going to see how it goes this year.”
No matter how students choose to spend their winter break, it is time off that is well deserved.
