It’s that time of year when every grocery store entrance is protected by gatekeepers with brown sashes and mint green vests. It’s diet-breaking time!
A mere forty bucks later, I juggled my brightly-colored boxes containing the edible specimens to the car. With a large glass of milk, this researcher sat down ready to deliver a carefully critiqued analysis of each tasty morsel.
Below is a review on the top five Girl Scout cookies.
1. Thin Mints
The chocolate-covered mint wafer could not be more of a favorite; unless of course it’s put in the freezer! Cold or lukewarm, the outer layer still finds a way to slowly dissolve in the mouth until teeth sink into that refreshing crunchy cookie center. Needless to say, this cookie crushed the “only one” rule with the first bite.
2. Caramel deLites
For a coconut hater, this cookie still manages to grab four stars. The coconut seems as if it is used more for texture than taste and the toned down sweetness of the chewy layer is heavenly. The striped chocolate drizzled lightly on top and a slightly crunchy chocolatey bottom is enough to make the mouth well up with drool the moment lips makes contact.
3. Peanut Butter Patties
High expectations of this peanut butter cookie lover fell a little flat as the peanut butter was on the bland side. However, the fact that it was nestled against a shortbread wafer and cleanly covered with a milk chocolate shell made it easy to forgive the flaw.
4. Lemonades
Forced by cuteness to try these, this skeptic was a little uncertain about a crunchy lemonade cookie and how it would get along with my taste buds. The sweet and tangy cream bottom dissolved beautifully though, and the circular wafer on top provided a buffer for the roof of the mouth to prevent the sexy act of “gleeking” from occurring.
5. Thanks-A-Lot
These cookies can be best described as the “vanilla” of cookies as it is a simple shortbread cookie with a bottom covered in milk chocolate. Dipped in milk, the shortbread dissolves perfectly in the mouth while still holding its crunch. Simplicity, in this case, is perfection.
Speaking to my fellow college students, I know we are all used to mommy picking up a couple of boxes from the store for us, well…maybe she still does it, but if not go pick some up and do your own review, a box is only $4.00!
