Campus adds gender neutral bathrooms

California State University, Stanislaus, in coalition with the California State University (CSU) system, now offers the use of gender neutral bathrooms across campus.
Last spring, former Associated Students Inc. (ASI) President Shanice Jackson launched the appeal to accommodate students on campus with the option of gender neutral bathrooms.
In collaboration with Love Evolution, an on-campus organization that promotes freedom of expression and identity, Jackson worked to foster an accepting environment for all students.
The gender neutral bathrooms are expected to serve several on-campus needs. The new restrooms have more built-in space than older restrooms.
Gender Neutral bathrooms are already utilized system-wide. CSU campuses already offering these facilities include East Bay, Fullerton, Los Angeles, Northridge, San Bernardino, San Francisco and San Luis Obispo.
“To determine which restrooms would be converted, CSU Stanislaus Facilities Services looked at existing single-user restrooms on campus and selected several convenient locations,” said Melody Maffei, Associate Vice President of Capital Planning and Facilities Management.
“The CSU system and CSU Stanislaus believe this accommodation to be both important and respectful.”
