Spring is back and so are the allergies. CSU Stanislaus students share how they are affected by them as well as the impact they have on their school work.
Allergies are caused by pollen picked up by the wind which affects individuals differently or not at all. Symptoms of allergies include: sneezing, runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, headaches and congestion.
Ariana Padilla (freshman, Liberal Studies) is one of several who reported putting off school work due to her allergy symptoms.
“Sometimes I’ll also get headaches, so if I have like a headache one day, and I have like an essay due or something I wouldn’t want to do my essay just because I’m not feeling it” Padilla said.
Conner La Rosa (freshman, Business Administration) also shared how his symptoms get in the way of his homework.
“I think the biggest thing is like, if I’m at school or something and I start getting like super puffed up, I get lazy and start feeling sorry for myself. I don’t really want to do any work so I just go home. I don’t want to do the homework while I’m feeling like crap,” he said.
Both La Rosa and Maricarmen Rabago (senior, Psychology) use medication to get allergy relief which causes drowsiness and in turn, put off their school work.
“I get drowsy with all the medicine that I have to take, I don’t want to show up to class, and I get really bad headaches. It just puts me back on school work, mainly because of the medicine that we have to take,” Rabago explains.
There are several ways to combat allergies. If you would like to learn more ways to protect yourself visit CDC.gov.
