CONCEPT
Overwatch comes forth with new downloadable content on the Play Station four in a new objective based mode titled “Uprising,” which details the past events in the main game story line.
Although there is not a single player mode on Overwatch’s main game, the game still comes close to what the game would look like if it had one. What uprising entails is just what it says; it is all about the uprising of machines in future London, England.
You can play as any of the 23 characters in the game, which are separated into offense, defense, tank and support.
Overall, this is a team-based game which means that you should not go in alone when playing the game. If you do go in alone, prepare to die a slow agonizing death by the mechanical hands of machines, and that counts for the rest of your team as well if you do not coordinate at all.
That is what makes Overwatch’s new downloadable content, along with the main game, so inviting that not only you play as a super hero but you are also vulnerable at any given time without your team. I wouldn’t call Overwatch a superhero game, but more like a task force game.
All in all, the concept of the new game mode ties in well with Overwatch’s story line. I would like to see a new game mode that would be kind of like death match where everyone is against each other but that just does not make sense for such an engaging team playing game.
GRAPHICS
Just to say this now, the rendering is awesome in this game! What I also like about this new game mode’s level is the fact that it really uses the full power of the Play Station four.
The look of the entire level may not make you feel as if you are in London, but the tiniest of details in the level are some to behold. The cracks in the stairs to the withering of the wooden bar at the local pub really stand out.
The character models are nice, too. Not because of the detail but because of all the costumes you can get for one specific character. For instance, Reaper can have a Halloween costume that makes him look like the king of the pumpkin patch with a pumpkin for a head and candle sticks on his shotguns to really strike fear into his enemies.
SOUND
The sound is not like battlefield where you can hear every gunshot whiz by you. However, the most impressive part of the sound of Overwatch is the characters themselves. Each character has their own footsteps including the enemies.
The dialogue is perfect in every way. When getting an objective ready, depending on the characters people are playing as, each character will have a full blown conversation with one another which absolutely blows my mind in how the developers designed all of that.
PLAYABILITY
This new game mode is meant to be played on higher difficulties. Not just for the challenge but because the game mode is better playing as a team. However, what saddens me is that there is not a lot of team players out there to play with. Overwatch does not force you to play as a team, which kind of puts down the whole idea of this new game mode. However, the difficulties will keep you playing long into the rest of the game mode’s time being on the Play Station four.
OVERALL SCORE: 8.5
