Another Feel Good Friday Zoom meeting was hosted by President Junn on April 30, 2021. The meeting was opened to faculty and students. Feel Good Fridays are designed to dedicate an hour of conversation towards uplifting topics to end the week on a positive note.
Considering the President’s busy schedule, she shares how Feel Good Fridays are one of her favorite meetings she attends. “Out of all the meetings I have to attend (it’s a lot of meetings by the way) Feel Good Fridays are one of my favorite meetings to attend.”
Even new participants of the meeting shared their interest in attending the meetings. Aridaid Isordia (freshman, Psychology) engages in the discussion by letting the participants know why she enjoyed attending her first Feel Good Friday meeting. “With my first year of college being virtual, I wanted to see different ways I can get more involved at Stan State. I have always seen these Feel Good Friday meetings pop up on my inbox, and I thought it would be a great way to kill an hour before class.”
This specific Feel Good Friday consisted of several questions to facilitate conversation. The questions were: What is your favorite book, or what was the last book you read? What is your favorite meal to cook or eat? If you had to delete all but 3 apps from your phone, which ones would you keep? When you were a child, what did you think you wanted to be when you were growing up? What was your first job? In what ways are you staying active during this time? What is something that has brought a smile to your face recently?
The question that sparked conversation amongst many of the participants was, “What was your first job?” This question led Maryann Hight (University Librarian) to share a piece of advice with the participants of the meeting. “One of the things I often tell people just starting out their new job is that sometimes you have to take a job you don’t really want in order to acquire the skills you need to have so you can get the job you really want. You never know where that will lead you!”
President Junn shares that she specifically added this question to direct the conversation to a new organization from the Career and Professional Development center called CareerReadyU. The mission statement of CareerReadyU shares that “Stan State students can connect with alumni, employers, and opportunities integrating the academic experience with professional experience in a variety of ways.” All Stan State students can participate in this organization and find more information on CareerReadyU.
Feel Good Friday is a public event that is open to any faculty and students who are interested. You can find more information about the event by checking for President Junn’s emails. Simply RSVP if you are interested and you will receive a link for the meeting.
