California State University, Stanislaus students gearing up for graduation may wish to consider becoming an alumni to the college to expand their professional network as well as share personal business skills and contacts with other alumni and students.
Becoming a CSU Stanislaus alumni is free and benefits include bookstore discounts, discounted extended education classes, library access, discounts on renting university space, student recreation center access and several insurance discounts including health and auto plans.
David Tonelli, Associate Vice President of Communication and Public Affairs said there are over 50,000 CSU Stanislaus alumni currently.
“Becoming alumni is a chance to maintain a connection to the school throughout your life,” Tonelli said.
“Students can look at graduation as the end or as just the beginning; it’s a great way to make connections and stay plugged in.”
Many alumni are well-known community members including CSU Stanislaus Chief Executive Officer Monica Nino who graduated in 1995 with her master’s degree in Public Administration.
She now oversees the entire county government, including 26 departments, more than 3,700 employees and an operating budget of $891 million.
“It’s now my turn to provide others with the opportunities I was once provided and share my knowledge,” Nino said on becoming a CSU Stanislaus alumni.
“That is how folks in our community will prosper even further; if they learn from our mistakes and strive for even more. Hopefully they will use that knowledge and see the value of this community and choose to stay.”
Alumni may get as involved as they choose and there are no levels of membership. Those who choose to participate in the Alumni Donor Society, however, will have different club levels with a variety of benefits per level.
The Alumni Donor Society is a new society with a goal to promote interest, loyalty and connection to CSU Stanislaus. Once graduating students complete the online form, they will receive an Office of Alumni Relations card. The card allows members to utilize the discounted services through the library and on-campus bookstore, among other benefits and service.
