The time has come for me to sign off from Punjabi Andaaz. Punjabi Andaaz to me was a way I can get people to learn about my culture. I wanted to do this in a fun and interesting way.
I will be honest and say that I was not into Punjabi films or music during high school. It was not until I was at Merced College that I really got into Punjabi entertainment. The friends I made there were from India, and they would always be listening to Punjabi songs or talking about the next film that was coming out.
They are the ones that helped me connect with my culture.
Coming to Stan State and joining The Signal in Spring 2017 began my promotion of the Punjabi culture.
I covered events like Holi and the Vaisakhi mela, which takes place in Livingston. I got to do interviews with people like Kay V Singh, Fateh and A2.
These stories gave me an idea to start my own column. I had this idea last semester when the staff said they liked to learn about my culture. With their support and the support and approval of Dr. Stevens, Punjabi Andaaz was formed.
It is really hard for me to say goodbye to this because I enjoyed it so much, which is why this article/ sign off is the hardest thing I had to write this semester. I have gotten attached to do this column.
It gave me the chance to interview people like youtuber Gurpy Colors.
I want to thank everyone that read any of the pieces that I wrote. It was really hard sometimes to even find people to interview. There were times where I had stories in mind and wrote that pitch down on the board and would have to erase it because I just could not get people to agree to do an interview.
I would also like to thank the people that helped me with providing picture or making a graphic.
A special thanks to Simarjit Kaur, who created the logo for Punjabi Andaaz.
The best thing is that I get to be the one that will be referred to as the founder of Punjabi Andaaz! Because I’m graduating, I would love to have someone pick up this column and keep it going.
