At Stan State’s Art Space, Assistant Professor Artur Da Silva invites viewers to reconsider labor, history and environment through his photography exhibit, Day Shift/Night Shift/Forest Time.
The exhibit showcases the diverse Brazilian environments while leaving their meaning open to interpretation.
“Each person that looks at them will triangulate the meaning between their experiences,” Silva said.
Through street photography and historical references, Silva contrasts images of anonymous urban workers in Rio de Janeiro with the often overlooked labor of enslaved individuals who replanted the forest.
