Guys sharing bathrooms with girls? Recently, California State University, Stanislaus’s campus community received an email from Facilities Services about the nine gender neutral bathrooms that have been added.
What this means is there are designated bathrooms for both males and females to use instead of just having gender specific bathrooms. The reason for adding these bathrooms does not seem very clear, but it does show that the school is trying to be accommodating to everyone on campus.
My initial impression on this topic was that they allowed for guys and girls to be in the same bathroom at the same time. Coming from a guy’s perspective, it would be a pretty uncomfortable experience having girls in the same bathroom. But, after checking out one of these bathrooms for myself, turns out it is just a one-stall bathroom.
These gender neutral bathrooms are nothing more than an ordinary bathroom that you see at some grocery stores. Each location has just one toilet to use so nobody else, including the opposite sex, can intrude on your privacy.
The addition of the bathrooms is causing quite a stir around campus, mainly because the impression circulating is that both sexes can share a bathroom. People may be uncomfortable and kind of freaked out at this thought, but turns out the hype is wrong.
The best part about these bathrooms is the cleanliness as compared to the average bathroom. Maybe guys using these will start to pee with the seat up, and then make sure that the seat is down before they leave. I’m sure you guys remember that old bathroom etiquette rule we were taught as youngsters.
These bathrooms can actually serve a good purpose on campus, and if you don’t believe me try checking one out for yourself. In my opinion, the easiest one to find is located on the second floor of our campus library in the reading room.
